Classrooms, research areas, social spaces, faculty offices
The renovation of Pendleton Hall transformed the 1935 outmoded Collegiate Gothic Revival building into a contemporary hub for teaching and socializing. Positioned in the historic main quadrangle of the campus, Pendleton Hall has emerged as an engaging educational environment with versatile classroom space, research areas, and offices that unify the social sciences without compromising the historic character of the quadrangle.
A series of large, light-filled spaces has dramatically changed the cramped, inefficient interiors throughout the building. An existing auditorium was cleverly converted into a two-story atrium and main entry. Flexible furniture can reconfigure this space to accommodate groups of up to 100 people. Five types of technologically-advanced classrooms provide a variety of learning settings, such as "case method" classrooms with U-shaped tiered desks to facilitate group exchange. Strategically-placed lounges and open seating were dispersed throughout the building for spontaneous meetings.
