Visual/performing arts building

The Aidekman Arts Center interweaves 30,000 square feet of new space and connects three existing arts buildings to provide the University’s first comprehensive complex for the arts. Major components of the facility include a professional art gallery, student art gallery, exterior and interior sculpture courts, and a 225-seat arena-style theater.

The new complex brings clarity and individual identity to the various program functions and creates lively, stimulating settings for theater events, gatherings, and art exhibits. An interior concourse traverses the complex, spatially unifying its various art departments and serving as a promenade of the arts that receives pedestrian flow between residence halls and the main campus. Acting as a visual bridge between the old and new buildings, the focal point of the Arts Center is the octagonal theater whose massing is raised above the existing roofline as a counterpoint to the rectangular forms of the auditorium and galleries.
