84-bed residence hall

As part of Milton Academy’s initiative to align its number of boarders with day students, the school has embarked on an ambitious program to enhance its on-campus residence options. Centre and Norris Houses add to Milton’s housing portfolio with 42 single and double student rooms, for a total of 84 student beds. Four faculty residences are included in each House, ranging from one to three bedroom apartments, and each has a full residence for the House Heads.

Both Centre and Norris Houses include common rooms, residential kitchens, game rooms, TV alcoves and dedicated senior rooms. A new common dining room, located in Centre House, allows Milton to bring together Centre, Norris and Hallowell boarders and House Heads to eat and meet together as a community. While Centre and Norris each has its own distinctive character, both buildings combine brick and clapboard around familiar campus forms to complement the Academy’s existing architecture.

Rounding out the new quadrangle is Gilpin House, an historic house that was moved to adjoin Centre House. Housing two faculty residences, the repositioning of Gilpin House maintains the character of the historic campus spine, while bringing modern day facilities to its back door.
