Wellesley College — Stone David and Bates Freeman McAfee Halls
Dining facilities and student residences
Built in the 1950’s and 60’s, this three-building complex houses a student residence, two dining rooms, and servery. Extensive renovation and upgrades to the complex’s dining facilities now connect them to the residence halls via above- and below-ground passageways. The design brightens and refreshes the original dining halls through the use of modern materials, and the new servery offers students greater choice through the marché dining concept.
In a parallel renovation effort, student residence hall bedrooms, corridors, public spaces have been refurnbished, and bathrooms, kitchenettes, lounge, and all building systems have been replaced. In order to complete the large project over a short time frame, the planning and documentation process began a year beforehand with some work starting in areas not used by students.
