The relaxed design of this home overlooking the Great Pond on Martha’s Vineyard complements its rustic resort location and respects the island’s shingle-style architecture. Fully winterized for year-round use, the house is easily maintained and presents a variety of spaces to benefit a family with young children. Sensitivity to the leisurely seaside styles of existing structures on the island was paramount for the design team, and inspired the contemporary application of indigenous forms and materials such as dormer windows, pitched roofs, articulated massing, cedar shingles, white trim, a red cedar roof, and large porches into the plan for this contemporary home.
