10 Farnsworth Wins BSA Honor Award

CBT is proud to announce that the firm has received a 2018 BSA Honor Award for Design Excellence for 10 Farnsworth, a new residential building located in Boston’s Fort Point neighborhood. The project was honored at the annual 2018 Design Awards Gala on January 17, 2019, where hundreds of industry professionals gathered to celebrate award winners across a series of categories.

“Infill – especially in a Historic Landmark District in Boston – is challenging,” the 2018 BSA jury commented on 10 Farnsworth’s contextually-sensitive design, “The architect of 10 Farnsworth was up to the challenge, and didn’t fall into the trap of faking its history with brick and an unimaginative vocabulary. Instead, it has a fresh look and a richness of materiality, successfully walking the line between respecting its context and establishing its own identity.”

From a pool of over 120 submissions, nine projects were selected by the jury for “design and execution that went beyond the expected” and pushing a program type to “do more than it typically might do,” while also expressing inherent beauty and mindful restraint. The jury commended the selected projects that "they hope will serve as catalysts for fresh ideas about what architectural innovation and excellence can be."
