Liberty Mutual Project Honored with IFMA Boston Best Practice Award

On May 22nd, the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) honored the Liberty Mutual Home Office Expansion project with a 2014 Best Practice Award of Excellence. The award honors the design/client teams whose project has had a substantial, positive effect on the success of their organization, demonstrated innovation and impact on business objectives, and achieved “above and beyond” the normal scope of job responsibilities.

Liberty Mutual Insurance’s iconic 22-story tower is a proud expression of the company’s values of stability, responsibility, and integrity. The building anchors a corporate campus for 5,000 employees in the heart of the Back Bay and cements the company’s 100-year relationship with the city. Liberty Mutual, the city, the community, and designers crafted a building that reinterprets Boston’s architectural traditions by combining refined details, locally-sourced materials, and innovative construction techniques to convey Liberty Mutual’s brand values and express its appreciation for the city. The program includes commercial office space, three levels of below-grade parking, an expansive and welcoming employee café, a public grab-and-go shop, a sculptural pedestrian bridge, and streetscape improvements, including a pocket park and public art installation.

A robust collaboration between experts across all aspects of the project ensured success. Liberty Mutual’s Design and Construction, Workplace Services, Facilities and Operations teams, including CBT, Dyer Brown Architects, Elkus Manfredi Architects, Creative Office Pavilion, DIRTT, BR+A, ACT Associates, Acentech, and Turner Construction contributed specialty expertise essential to the project.
