2023

The inaugural Climate Beacon conference in Boston took place at the New England Aquarium. CBT served as an inaugural sponsor, contributed voices to conference panels, and actively participated as attendees to gather insights to share with colleagues.

CBT celebrates and expands leadership, naming 11 new Associate Principals and 11 new Principals.

2022

Named the 2022 Architectural Firm of the Year by Boston Real Estate Times! 

CBT moves from 110 Canal Street – our home for more than two decades – to Constitution Wharf.

2021

CBT celebrated firmwide promotions at various levels, including Associates, Senior Associates, and Associate Principals. The growth of the leadership team involves the addition of 23 new Associates, 7 new Senior Associates, and 16 new Associate Principals across both our Boston and Abu Dhabi offices.

 

Woburn Public Library received recognition through three distinguished awards: the AIA New England's Honor Award for Design Excellence, the Boston Society of Architecture's Best of Boston Award, and the Boston Society of Architecture's Honor Award for Design Excellence.

2020

 

Construction of The Harvey, a 177-unit residential building spanning six stories, has been completed in the famed Hood Park located in Charlestown, Massachusetts. This project has achieved recognition as the first LEED platinum multifamily building in Boston and has also received the Green Home of the Year award from the Built Environment Plus Green Showcase.

2019

CBT Principal Vickie Alani AIA named one of Boston’s Top 10 Women in Real Estate by the Boston Real Estate Times.

CBT’s successful competition entry for BSA’s exhibition gallery space went on display − Balancing Act: Urbanism & Emerging Technologies, an interactive public exhibition that provides a thoughtful lens through which to examine current conditions of our urban environments and the future of emerging technologies in the design and development of global cities.

The historic Massachusetts State Senate Chamber was completed and recognized for four prestigious awards (Boston Society of Architects Accessible Design Award; a Boston Preservation Alliance’s Preservation Achievement Award; the BPA Fan Favorite award; and an Association of General Contractors Build New England Award).

2018

121 Seaport shifts the paradigm for Boston Seaport architecture and LEED-Platinum design.

10 Farnsworth makes headlines with multiple awards for preservation and design excellence (BSA, the BPA, and AIA New England).

CBT is listed among the top 50 Design Firms for Business, Design, and Sustainability by ARCHITECT Magazine for the third year in a row.

2017

CBT Celebrates its 50th anniversary with a bold vision for the future.

In a successful spring, six design awards are received: Shawmut Design and Construction HQ (IIDA First Place - Office and People's Choice); Le Meridien at MIT (IIDA Best in Hospitality); Miami University's Western Dining Commons (SCUP AIA/CAE); UTEC (Power of Preservation Award); and CBT was recognized with the IIDA New England Legacy Award.

2016

CBT launches “Housing the HUB: 5 Ideas” as part of HUBweek, Boston’s annual innovation festival.

CBT is listed among the top 50 Design Firms for Sustainability by ARCHITECT Magazine.

2015

The Government Center Garage Redevelopment is awarded the AIA Honor Award for Regional and Urban Design.

The Charlesview Residences win the Urban Land Institute's Jack Kemp Award for Excellence.

Masdar City Phase 2 Master Plan Wins the AIA Middle East Design Award.

2014

The Museum of Fine Arts Receives the Boston Society of Architects' prestigious Harleston Parker Medal, an award that recognizes the single most beautiful building constructed in metropolitan Boston area within the past 10 years.

Liberty Mutual's Global Headquarters opens in Boston

2012

Atlantic Wharf is recognized with the Global Award for Excellence from the Urban Land Institute, the NAIOP Sustainable Development Award, and two other distinctions.

2011

Atlantic Wharf opens as Boston’s first LEED Platinum high-rise.

2010

The Museum of Fine Arts' Art of the Americas Wing celebrates its Grand Opening.

Charles Tseckares and Richard Bertman Receive United Way Leventhal/Sidman Real Estate & Building Industry Award.

The Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Residences open.

CBT opens a field office in Abu Dhabi to support its work on a large waterfront development project.

2007

CBT celebrates its 40th anniversary, and sponsors the design and construction of a house through South Shore Habitat for Humanity.

2006

NorthPoint (now Cambridge Crossing) wins the AIA Honor Award for Regional and Urban Design.

The Prudential Center Redevelopment was selected as a winner of the Urban Land Institute’s Global Awards for Excellence competition.

2005

CBT begins work on the Fitchburg State University Antonucci Science Complex

2004

Lois Goodell and David Nagahiro become principals.

CBT invited to participate in Zhongkai Shanghai Residences in China.

2003

Work begins on Puerto Rico Convention Center District Master Plan in San Juan.

Penn State Residence Halls are completed.

2002

The significant addition to Quincy's Thomas Crane Public Library (originally designed by H.H. Richardson) receives a Preservation Award from the Massachusetts Historical Commission.

2001

CBT moves to new offices at 110 Canal Street.

CBT hired by Penn State to design one of the largest residence hall complexes in the country.

Early design work begins on Atlantic Wharf.

2000

111 Huntington at the Prudential Center is completed. A number of the city’s leading firms move to the new tower, and CBT Interior Design group designs the new spaces.

The firm is selected to work with Foster + Partners of London on the expansion of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

1998

Work begins on the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Boston, the historic Memorial Hall Tower at Harvard University, and on the urban design of Fan Pier.

1997

Margaret Deutsch, David Hancock, Christopher Hill, Alfred Wojciechowski are made principals.
 

1995

CBT wins competition for the Waterfront at Pitt’s Bay Road in Hamilton, Bermuda, extending the reach of the firm with a substantial international project.

1992

CBT’s design for Niketown Boston wins the confidence of the Back Bay Architectural Commission to have a contemporary solution in an historic district.

CBT begins the Prudential Center Redevelopment, including 111 Huntington Avenue, CBT’s first major high-rise office building.

1986

The Urban Design Group is formed.

The firm begins work on Clippership Wharf Residence East, the firm’s first major waterfront project.

1984

CBT wins an international competition for urban design of 17 blocks of the Los Angeles Olympic Boulevard, and design of two office towers.

1982

CBT’s Interior Design Group is formed.
 

1980

CBT enters the academic market by winning a competition at Phillips Andover Academy for the design of the Graves Hall Music Center.
