Located in one of the most iconic towers in Boston, the new 53 State Street lobby delicately balances clean, modern lines and materials while preserving the history and grandeur of the past.
Constructed in 1891, a significant portion of the old Boston Stock Exchange Building remains intact nearly 100 years later and a 40-story glass tower has risen out of its original 12-story counterpart. The white marble Grand Stair remains in its original location — a prominent spot in the 12,000-square-foot lobby.
A key program is the creation of a high-end café at the Kilby Street entrance complete with a media wall, bar, and contemporary seating. Curved walls hug and define the space while unique ceiling treatments activate and brighten the space. Finally, a local artist was commissioned to create three pieces unique to the lobby which blur the lines between contemporary and historic.
