This is not your average tech office. With a soft palette, nature-infused design, and a distinct local charm, the New England office of this renowned global technology company is a marked departure from the conventional corporate aesthetic.

Rather than vast spaces, bold, branded colors, and loud, overstimulating features, this creative workplace strikes a careful balance between intimate and communal spaces while providing an environment immersed in nature. Here, employees are afforded adequate privacy to focus, yet opportunities to connect and collaborate with colleagues are supported from every corner. Lush green views and playful furniture complement biophilic colors, patterns, and textures. Designed and constructed by a diverse project team, the office functions as a holistically inclusive and equitable space that prioritizes dignity for all and ensures everyone a seat at the table.

Symbiosis: Nature, Technology, and Innovation

Recognizing the power of biophilic environments to positively impact human health and nourish creativity, the design team adopted an approach that would foster a reciprocal relationship between people, technology, and nature.

A series of interconnected pathways branch out from a sinuous internal corridor to create a unique spatial layout that deliberately scales down the 60,000-square-foot space to a quieter, more approachable setting. Vertical, arboriform elements with a leaflike canopy above remind one of a tranquil wooded path, where discovery awaits around every corner. A nod to New England’s local hiking trails, trail-map-inspired wayfinding, and three-dimensional feature walls displaying local topography animate central social spaces. At dedicated work points, ample daylight and treetop views complement pine-tree-patterned wallcoverings on earthy greens, yellows, and blues. Throughout the space, natural materials – including wood, rope, and wool – and outdoor furniture – like picnic tables, benches, and swings – facilitate creative and collaborative activity, redefining the office as a playground immersed in nature where innovation and creativity can thrive.

Holistically inclusive.

Three office ‘neighborhood’ typologies support preferred workstyles and create equal opportunity for remote, hybrid, and in-office employees. Organized into assigned, collaborative, and on-demand areas, each neighborhood is equipped with a variety of work points, storage, and ancillary furniture to support diverse modes of work: assigned neighborhoods offer quieter spaces for individual focus; collaborative neighborhoods support a combination of focus and team-oriented spaces; and on-demand neighborhoods provide touch-down work stations, where employees can work in a more casual or mobile setting. Employees who require remote work or flexible hours to provide caregiving services, individuals with neurodivergent processing styles who may prefer more controlled environments, leaders and managers who need to keep their finger on the pulse of daily operations and company culture, those who simply thrive on the buzz of a collaborative workplace, and so many more can feel adequately supported to perform their best in this space.

Private wellness spaces, open to all, also afford the ample room required to accommodate a diverse employee base. A lactation suite equipped with privacy curtains and a meditation room with a foot bath and prayer rugs contributes to a balanced, inclusive environment where employees can be their whole selves.
