Dareen East Beach

The City of Jubail has evolved from a master plan created 35 years ago. Dareen East Beach was the last undeveloped beachfront parcel on the eastern tip of the Dareen Peninsula.

In collaboration with landworks>studio, the project scope included urban design, landscape and planning concepts that envisioned the site as a diverse amenity for the area’s residents and visitors. As part of a larger beachfront and park network, the options provided unique and specific multi-layered and flexible program spaces. All of the options incorporated the city’s original master plan principles that called for carefully woven elements of the regional, environmental, cultural, and ecological context.

The design identified three urban frameworks and from hybrids of these frameworks, four schemes emerged. The selected concept envisions four major zones including a neighborhood park, sculpture park, an inner waterway, and an ecological corniche with integrated private development opportunities. This strategy expands the role of the waterfront which is considered the site’s most valuable amenity.
